JULY 26 - 53 DAYS

GOOD MORNING ALL!

I AM HAPPY TO SAY THAT MY KITCHEN AND THE YARD HAVE SLOWED DOWN CONSIDERABLY. ROSIE'S GIRLS CAME TO PICK HER UP YESTERDAY AND I MEAN PICK HER UP. I DON'T THINK HRE FEET TOUCHED THE GROUND FOR THE ENTIRE VISIT!! YEAH, TO THE LADY BUG AND LITTLE GIRL HAPPINESS!!!

TALU ASLO WENT HOME YESTERDAY ;-( HE IS THE TYPE OF DOG THAT COULD MAKE ALMOST ANY TRAINER LOOK GOOD ;-) HE WILL BE BACK FOR TRANIG REGULARLY SO KEEP AN EYE OUT

AS FAR AS CRATE TRAINING GOES, I THINK I MAY BE CAUGHT UP TO THE REST OF YOU.... GOT TO SLEEP FROM 1130 - 0730 LAST NIGHT!!! NOW THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR BEING GRUMPY TO THE MAN, LOL.... XLY, HAS MOVED INTO THE NEXT SIZE UP CRATE AND IT LOOKS LIKE I WILL NEED TO GO AND GET THE NEXT SIZE UP FOR XODA. ANYONE ELSE THERE YET???

ADDING TO THE PUPPY DIET....

FRUIT AND VEGETABLES CAN BE A GREAT ALTERNATIVE TO STORE BOUGHT TREATS. THEY CONTAIN LESS SALT AND CHEMICAL PRESERVATIVES (I HOPE) AND ARE A NEEDED MINERAL AND FIBER SOURCE. THEY ARE ALSO COLD AND CAN HELP WITH TEETHING (AHA!!) CARROTS, CELERY, BROCCOLI STEMS AND APPLES ARE ALL GOOD FOR THEM... AVOID: RAISINS, GRAPES, ONIONS AND GO LIGHT ON THE GARLIC (MIXED REPORTS AS TO THE BENEFIT OF GARLIC).

ADDING ICE TO THEIR WATER CAN HELP COOL THEM DOWN TOO....

EXPOSING YOUR PUPPIES TO DIFFERENT SURFACES AND EXPERIENCES NOW WILL HELP THEM PREPARE FOR FUTURE EXPERIENCES... HERE I MOVED THE BABY GATE AND THEY DROPPED IT ON THE FLOOR. HIDDEN UNDER IT IS A SMALL PIECE OF CARROT, THE BRIBE!!!

IF YOUR TAKING YOUR PUPS TO PUBLIC PLACES, A WORD OF CAUTION!!!!!!!

MAKE SURE YOUR PUPS ARE VACCINATED, SECOND SHOTS DUE ABOUT AUGUST 14. MAKE SURE THE AREA THAT YOU EXPOSE YOUR PUP TO ARE VACCINATED DOG AREAS. PARVO IS A COMMON AND DEADLY DOG COMMUNITY DISEASE AND I WOULD HATE FOR ANY OF YOU TO EXPERIENCE THIS!
OTHER DOGS CAN AND WILL BE A THREAT TO YOUR PUP. PICK IT UP WHEN FOLKS APPROACH AND DON'T BE LEAD DOWN THE PREVERBAL GARDEN PATH WITH A STATEMENT LIKE, 'MY DOG IS REALLY GOOD WITH PUPPIES.' ONE BUTT WHOPPIN' AND YOU COULD HAVE A PROBLEM FOR LIFE...
WE RECOMMEND SOCIALIZING WITH STRANGERS FOR ABOUT THE FIRST 16 WEEKS. HAVE THEM PET THEM, GIVE THEM TREATS AND BE MAULED BY YOUR PUP. THIS GIVES PUPPIES CONFIDENCE. AVOID PEOPLE THAT WILL TELL YOUR PUP WHAT TO DO OR MAKE CORRECTIONS. (YOU WOULD BE SURPRISED HOW MANY PEOPLE THINK THEY SHOULD BE YOUR PUPS TRAINER!!!!)
AFTER 16 WEEKS, THE PUP CAN APPROACH STRANGERS BUT THE STRANGER SHOULD AVOID CONTACT, (AFTER ALL YOU WOULDN'T LET STRANGERS PET YOUR KIDS). THIS GIVES YOUR DOG CONFIDENCE IN ANY PUBLIC SETTING BUT LEAVES THE DOG ALOOF TO INDIVIDUALS. THE DOG REMAINS FOCUSED ON YOU AND THE FAMILY.

FEAR PERIOD...

WHEN WE FIRST GOT INTO THESE LINES THE OLD TRAINERS WARNED US.....
PUPPIES GO THROUGH TWO 'FEAR PERIODS' BEFORE THEY MATURE. THE FIRST IS ABOUT 8-12 WEEKS OF AGE AND THE SECOND IS ABOUT 8 MONTHS. DURING THIS TIME PUPS THAT WOULD DO A BEHAVIOR WITHOUT FAIL ALL OF A SUDDEN LOOK AT THINGS A WHOLE NEW WAY... THESE SITUATIONS CAN BE SUBTLE BUT THEY ARE STILL THERE.... HOW YOU WORK THROUGH THEM WILL IMPACT YOUR DOGS FUTURE.... SIT AND BE PATIENT.... GO BACK TO WHAT THE PUP DOES WELL AND REINFORCE THAT BEHAVIOR... THE TIME FRAME IS ABOUT A MONTH FOR EACH PHASE. (THAT'S WHY YOU GOT TO TAKE HOME YOU PUPS AT 6 WEEKS ;-D)
