After many vet visits, the decision was made that the time was right!!! Bobi's temperature had dropped and she was showing signs of having contractions.
Bobi had her c-section this afternoon. For several reasons it was just in time. She was spade on the table. She would have been unable to have delivered her pups without a section. Thank goodness for medical science. In the wild, this line and Bobi would have perished.
Puppies are currently doing well. 4 boys and 6 girls.
Babies first visitor
Feedings have gone from every 20 minutes to 1 hour over the several hours we have been home this afternoon. Due to sedation the puppies were a bit sluggish but have rallied in the last few hours. I will be switching them up every hour through the night.
Feedings here are not left to chance. The litter is split into two groups and each puppy is attached to a nipple before the next is given to Bobi. The second group is moved to a box with a heating pad where they sleep for the hour. The smaller one may stay with Bobi for several hours in a row. This ensures that each puppy has eaten every hour. I then top off those that will take a bottle with puppy replacement formula (today) and then we move to goat's milk and whipping cream tomorrow.
Puppies are weighed and given a ribbon for easy tracking so that I can make sure which puppies have eaten and which need to be fed. This also comes in handy when the pup does something remarkable I can track it for future placements.
Tony needed some snuggle time with the kids and Bobi. She looks so tired....
on the way out the door to the vets a black squirrel with a red tail was teasing me, so I thought I would share him with you. Ever seen such a critter?
Congratulations to everyone that has a deposit on a puppy!!!! Bobi has done what she can to provide you with a future companion ;-)
